Abstract

LDI-I isoenzyme feature and fibre pattern of Pectoral, Dorsal and Caudal muscles of A nabas testudineus and Clariasbatrachus were evaluated. Based on electrophoretic mobility, LDH of A. testudineus was found to be of LDH-I and LDH-2 and that of C. batrachus was found to be of LDI-l-4 and LDI-l-5 indicating different metabolic status. This difference in metabolic status is related to the difference in their habits and habitat, and muscle fibre pattern of the two fishes.

Keywords: LDH isoenzyme, Pectoral, Dorsal and Caudal muscles, fibre pattern, freshwater fishes
