Abstract

Androgenetic development was induced in the eggs of F, hybrids between polyvoltine and bivoltine breeds of the mulberry silkworm, Bombyx mori L. by subjecting the eggs to hot air (38°C) for 200 min, (40°C) for 135 min and (42°C) for 210 min. Androgenetic development was pronounced following exposure of the eggs at 38°C for 200 min as compared to other treatments. Importance of androgenesis in the development of homozygous silkworm breeds has been discussed.

Keywords: Androgenetic development, Bombyx mori, bivoltine and polyvoltine breeds
