Abstract
Sex ratio of a freshwater fish, Glossogobius giuris has been studied from Sadatpur Lake near Pravaranagar, Ahmednagar district, Maharashtra. The overall sex ratio males to females was 2.29 : 1. Males significantly (p < 0.05) outnumbered females. During non-breeding season (Dec-May) there was no abundance of any sex, but during spawning season (June-Nov) males were more abundant (p <0.001) than the females. In small sized length groups (130-139, 150-159, 160-169 and 170-179 mm) the males were insignificantly dominant over females. In larger length groups (180-189, 190-199 and 200-209 mm) only males were recorded. Females were not recorded above 179 mm length in the lake. In the size group 80-89 and 140-149 mm the sex ratio was 1 : 1.
