Abstract

The present study was carried out to check the feasibility of intercropping of mulberry with Litchi chinensis under the tropical conditions of West Bengal so that same could be practiced by the marginal farmers to make sericulture more remunerative. The study indicate that there is no negative effect of using L. chinensis, as intercrop of mulberry on the quality of mulberry leaf Bioassay study indicated that mulberry leaves harvested from the plots where mulberry was grown with L. chinensis did not affect the growth of silkworm larvae and yield of cocoon significantly and it was possible to earn an excess of Rs. 12020 than TO plot (Control) in one bigha of land without affecting the quality of leaves and as well as health of silkworm larvae.
