Abstract

This study investigates the biodiversity trends of plant, butterfly, and spider species in the Ecological Park of Adyar, focusing on the interactions and ecological roles these groups play in the park's ecosystem. Over a period from April to October 2024, systematic surveys were conducted to document species diversity and distribution patterns. Preliminary findings indicate a rich diversity of important flora with 21 tree species, 22 herbs and 25 shrubs plant species identified, contributing to varied microhabitats that support a diverse assemblage of butterflies (41 species) and spiders (21 species). Butterfly species richness showed significant correlating with floral availability, while spider populations were found to be more stable, indicating a resilient predatory community. The study highlights the importance of maintaining habitat quality and connectivity for sustaining biodiversity in urban ecological parks. These findings provide crucial insights for conservation strategies aimed at enhancing biodiversity and ecosystem services within urban environments.
