Abstract

The changes in lipase activity during metamorphosis of Chilopartellus have been studied. The lipase activity was maximal at pH 6.0. The lipase mainly hydrolysed the triglycerides to diglycerides and fatty acids. There was increase in the lipase activity from 1 day pupa to 4 day pupa. The rate of reaction declined from 4 day pupa to 7 day pupa. The maximum lipolytic activity is observed in 7 day pupa. The decrease in lipolytic activity is observed from 7 day pupa to 10-day pupa. The physiological role of lipase during metamorphosis is discussed.
