Abstract

The Reserved Forest were surveyed to prepare an inventory of smaller mammals in Trichy Forest Range, Tiruchirappalli. About 11 species of small mammals were recorded and they were briefly reviewed in this paper. The Bonnet macaque was the most abundant and the Rusty spotted cat a Near threatened species was also found  in the study area. The threats and conservation strategies are also discussed. It is important to study the status and ecology of smaller mammals to conserve them from extinction.
