Abstract

The present study has been conducted to understand the effect of sublethal concentration of arsenic (96 LC50 – 10% SLC) on the biochemical composition and histology of muscle of the milk fish Chanoschanos for a period of 10, 20 and 30 days. Glycogen, protein and lipids were measured both in control and experimental fish. During the exposure periods the biochemical constituents (carbohydrates, proteins and lipids) were decreased in the experimental fish with duration. The histopathological changes induced in the muscle were degeneration of muscle fibre, oedema, atrophy of muscle fibres and shortening of muscle bundle.

Keywords: Arsenic, biochemical parameters, histology, Chanoschanos
