Abstract
The composition of glycolipids and glycoproteins on the plasma membrane of RBC,forms blood antigen that determines the A,B AB, O blood group in persons. Blood antigens are Controlled by certain genes. In the present study an effort has been made to assess the distribution of ABO and Rh blood group system among Brahmin caste population of Benipur Block, of Darbhanga, Bihar. A total of 200 Brahmin individuals from Benipur, Block of Darbhanga, Bihar were studied for phenotype and allelic frequency distribution of A, B, AB and O and Rh blood group system. The order of occurrence of ABO phenotype is B> A >O>AB. The Corresponding allele frequencies of A, B, AB and O alleles are found to be 0.072,1.111,5 and 0.98 respectively. The allele frequency of Rh+ (0.156) is less than Rh- (0.625).The present study was compared with other standards quality of work. It is hoped that such type of genetic analysis will be helpful in establishing the scientific tempo among the individuals of respective area. The findings can’t be used to discriminate the population on the basis of caste v/s diseases associated with blood groups.
