Abstract

Testosterone is perhaps the foremost wide studied natural androgenic-hormone for growth improvement in fish. The present investigation aims to determine the impact of 17α-Methyltestosterone(17α-MT) on Weight gain (WG), Specific growth rate (SGR), Hepatosomatic index (HSI), Gonadosomatic Index (GSI), and Food conversion efficiency (FCE) levels in fish, Tilapia mossambica. Three different dosages of 17α-MT hormone such as 2 μg, 5 μg, and 10 μg/10 g body weight (b.w) of fish, were dissolved in 0.1 ml alcohol and administrated via, injection mode for 24 hours, 48 hours, 7 and 14 days. The one more group of fish have received the hormone-free injection and served as an impact group. From the results obtained it was clear that the hormone 17α-MT has promoted the growth of fish over the control. Growth performance was monitored by recording the body Weight gain (g), Hepatosomatic Index (HSI), Gonadosomatic Index (GSI), Specific growth rate (SGR), and Food conversion efficiency (FCE). The present investigation, revealed that the 17α-Methyltestosterone (17α-MT) induced growth enhancement of Tilapia mossambica.
