Abstract
Background: Land snails of brown garden snail, Eobania vermiculata (Müller) and clover snail, Monacha obstructa (Pfeiffer) are the most common snails causing problems in different plantations. Land snails controlling by nano bio-agent safety compound is the main target in current work comparing with chemical compound efficacy.
Aim of Study: Control two snails of Eobania vermiculata (Müller) and Monacha obstructa (Pfeiffer) by nano compound of nano-chitosan and comparing its efficacy with chitosan singly or chemical compound of methomyl.
Methods: The work was done by using of chitosan, nano-chitosan and methomyl recommended were used as poisonous baits to control Eobania vermiculata (Müller) (on citrus nursery & mango plantations) and Monacha obstructa (Pfeiffer) (on clover & wheat plantations) that infested four crop plantations; citrus nursery at Qalubyia province; while, mango, clover and wheat at Giza province.
Results: The population percent reductions were assessed during 15 days from treatment beginning. Nano-chitosan was considered more potency in reduction percentages than chitosan when it used originally against the two land snails mentioned. Meanwhile, methomyl had the highly effective mostly against the two land snails; but in other state gave the reduction percent as well as nano-chitosan. Tested compounds had the most land snails reduction percent on citrus nursery, followed by wheat, mango and finally on clover plants that caused the least reductions compared with other infested planted used.
Conclusion: Nano-chitosan had highly reduction percentages on E. vermiculata and M. obstructa on four infested crops compared with chitosan when used as original.
