Abstract
A new myxozoan Ceratomyxa tenualosae sp. nov. (Myxosporea: Ceratomyxidae) is described from the gallbladder of an estuarine teleost Tenualosa toli (Valenciennes) from Hooghly estuary of the Bay of Bengal near Kakdwip of West Bengal. Its salient features are : Disporous trophozoite (37.8 plm x 18.5 um); elongated spore with arched anterior surface and flat, straight posterior surface with a notch at the suture (31.0m x 9.2 um); suture thin and bend; two spherical or broadly pyriform polar capsules (5.6 pum in diameter or 4.75um x 3.25um); symmetrical sporoplasm filling the entire extra-capsular cavity; triad spores in tri-radiate forms with equal shelvalves frequently seen.
