Abstract

Two new myxosporida (Myxozoa : Myxidiidae) Myxidium batae n.sp. and Zschokkella gobidiensis n.sp. have been described from the gall bladders of two freshwater fishes Labeo bata (Ham.) and Gobius giuris Day respectively of West Bengal, India. Myxidium batae n.sp.-trophic stage unknown; spore fusiform to cylindrobiconical (15.43u mx6.924um) with pointed ends, shell valves with 7-10 longitudinal striations; polar capsules two, equal and broadly pyriform to ovoidal (3.97um x 2.82um) with a short neck and 3-4 coils of polar filament; and Zschokkella gobidiensis n.sp. - tropic stage diporous; spore broadly ellipsoidal (12.25um x 7.20um) with rounded ends, shell valve smooth, suture S-shaped; polar capsules two, equal and broadly ovoidal to spherical (3.35um) with 3-4 coils of polar filament.
