Abstract

A variation in chromosomes of male small Indian mongoose H. auropunctatus was studied in direct preparation from its bone marrow of femur. There were 35 chromosomes, including one X-chromosome as sex chromosome and no Y-chromosome. The autosomes represented as 17 pairs of bivalents represented by 4 pairs of metacentric, 3 pairs of submetacentric and 10 pairs of subtelocentric chromosomes. X-chromosome did not form a trivalent with a pair of autosome bivalent
