Abstract
Fresh water teleost, Sarotherodon mossambicus exposed to sublethal concentrations of to organophosphorous pesticides viz. Ekallux (EC 25) and Rogor (Dimethoate) for a period of days revealed that both (i) the organocides inhibited the ovarian activity, (ii) significant reduced (P - 0001) the diameter of different oocytes (iii) increased (P - 0.001) the percental of atretic oocytes, and (iv) reduced the gonadosomatic indices. lhe above changes in the ovar may be due to the inhibition of endogonous gonadotropin. It is suggested that the pituitor ovarian hromonal axis may be disturbed by the organocides resulting in inhibition of adench pophysial secretory activity. -
