Abstract

The lamellibranch molluscs, Lamelliden s marginalis, L. corrianus and Indonaia caeruleus, collected from Godavari river at Paithan are subjected for determination of total protein, glycogen and lipid contents. The body components analysed are the mantle (anterior, middle, posterior) anterior and posterior (white and pink) adductor muscles Protein content is significantly more in the mantle (anterior and posterior) of L. corrianus compared to other two species Protein content in posterior adductor muscle (pink and white) is more in 1 c, eruleus than anterior adductor muscles of other two species. Glycogen content in the mantle (anterior, middle, posterior) of I. caeruleus is significantly greater than other two species of lamellidens. Glycogen content in the anterior and posterior adductor muscles of L. marginalis is greater than the other two species Lipid content in the mantle (middle) of L. corrianus is more than L. marginalis. In anterior adductor muscles (pin') lipid content is more in both the species of lamellidens than I. caeruleus whereas in posterior adductor muscles it is significantly greater in L. marginalis than L. corrianus. The results are discussed in the light of fuel reserves of these molluscs.
